A good old 'down to earth' boozer, the Tivoli has some history. Starting life as a private residence, it was acquired in the mid 19th century by a wine, spirit and provision merchant before coming into the hands of Hewitt's, the brewers who sold bottled beers here before conversion to an alehouse around the turn of the 20th century. It was known under the title of the Globe Inn (nicknamed "Hole in the Wall") for the next 60 years or so. The front is the original shop front. Further details of its past can be seen in a display board on an inside wall. A one-roomer, button-back leather seating is around the walls, as the floor is for stand-up drinking. Unfortunately, there is no provision for smoking except outside in the pedestrian area. Re-opened on 12th April 2019 after a significant refurbishment and is run by a long standing staff member.
