Formally the residence of a major presence in the village (Lady Portman) and built in 1892, it contained a vast number of rooms. It underwent an enormous transformation after some years of neglect after a previous venture failed and reopened in 2013. Superbly restored and standing in 36 acres of manicured parkland, including a large lake, the view from the rear patio is outstanding and a side balcony with seating overlooks the lake. The high quality is reflected in the food and drink and a gorgeous lounge. Functions are well catered for with function suites and the hotel is registered for civil weddings. As well as double rooms, there are suites available, including a bridal suite. Unusually, a picnic can be purchased, including all utensils and even a groundsheet. PIG & WHISTLE A new bar opened in 2016 as an extension to the hotel. Furnished in traditional pub style – the outstanding feature is the ceiling height grandfather clock. French windows give a pleasant view of the lawn. Opens 10.30-11 daily.
