Formerly known as the Lion, a visit in 1870 from the Prince of Wales, Edward VII, prompted the addition of Royal in the title. Guy Gibson, commanding officer of RAF 617 Dambusters Squadron, spent his wedding night in this imposing, brick and stone building. The bar has a flagged floor and an impressive fireplace.
