Formerly, this was a traditional three-room pub - a regular for many years in the Good Beer Guide - comprising a quiet, traditionally styled lounge and a lively bar with a jukebox. However, following a 'refurbishment' by Punch before Christmas 2025, the handpumps in the lounge have been ripped out, with emphasis on keg fonts. A large tv screen has been installed in the lounge for no sensible reason. In the bar there is one handpump dispensing a single cask ale. To add insult to injury, a brewery conditioned (i.e. keg) beer, Wainwright Gold, is served using another handpump.

Upstairs is the Hop Loft function room and first floor outside terrace.

Branch Cider pub of the Year in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2024, Runner up in 2023. The cider situation is not clear following 'refurbishment'.

In an email from the pub (17th March 2025) we were informed: "We will be undertaking some aesthetic upgrades...no major changes. It can only get better". See for yourselves what the reality is.
