The Tavern lies on the old Nottingham Road and once close to an arm of the Derby canal and also the Nottingham Road station of the Midland Railway. Hence the pub's former occupation as a station hotel. The pub interior consists of a large single room stretching back from Nottingham Road. The bar is situated along the back wall and strangely features a fire place half-way along.
