The Alma is a "semi-detached" pub attached to a shop at present functioning as an Indian restaurant. The name refers to the Battle of Alma (1854), the first battle of the Crimean War, won by Anglo-French forces. This area of Melbourne was developed about 1856. The car park is the site of Dallman's Brewery acquired by John Hair and sons also of Melbourne.
