Large hotel (46 rooms) primarily used as a base for walking holidays around Dovedale, usually has one real ale on handpump, from such local breweries as Dancing Duck or Peakstones Rock. Only open to residents.

Famous for hosting the 1966 West Germany football team before the World Cup, also used as a base by Russell Crowe whilst filming Robin Hood in 2010.
